MHA PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

"Benefits of Continuous Learning"

Obtaining your certification does not guarantee lifelong success and knowledge in your trade. It should only be the beginning of continuous education and learning which is required for anyone to stay competitive in our industry. There is so much opportunity for personal and professional growth whether you take a course or class, you observe others while they demonstrate their skills, read a book, download information, or watch a video. Further education can be self taught or group lead, whatever works to motivate and excite you to learn more.

Continuing your education benefits both the employee and the employer. Motivation for continuous learning is not just financial gain, but for a desire to build one’s self-esteem and provide value to others. Continued learning can open doors of opportunity to enhance proficiency and consistency of skills, as well as opportunity to develop new skill sets. Investing in further educational opportunities can also develops team building, team recognition, role models, and empowerment for leadership or management. Increased productivity and professionalism in the workplace makes happier employees which means when they do well, the employer does well!

There are so many areas in which we can build and grow throughout our careers that we should never stop challenging ourselves. As times change, so does technology whether it be on communication skills, technical skills, organizational skills, management, leadership, teamwork skills, professional etiquette, image, or essential skills. We have a lifetime of learning opportunities ahead so embrace them, search for them and challenge yourself. You won’t regret it!

The Manitoba Hairstylists’ Association is working hard to provide educational classes as well as a database for links to other educational opportunities for our members to take advantage of. If you would like to request any future educational information or offer suggestions, we would love to hear from you. Please contact our Executive Educational Director Cheri Paizen or myself. We look forward to your feedback!
